Why Da Nang, Vietnam?

We fell in love with Da Nang after our first trip there together! Stephen visits often and Erika was able to join him once; the entire time we kept thinking how much we wanted to share our experiences with our family and friends. After some friends from there brought up the idea of a destination wedding, we decided to go for it! If you’re getting this invite, we would LOVE for you to join us. We have some awesome events planned throughout the week and it’s going to be an unforgettable experience. That being said, it’s extremely important to us that you don’t feel pressured to join us physically if this trip doesn’t work for you. We will be zooming the ceremony as well 😊

Are we going to all those incredible places from the video?

Yes, 100%. This is such a beautiful place with an incredible culture and delicious food. We can’t wait for you to see it!

What’s there to do in Da Nang?

There are so many new activities and experiences: Hiking, spas, snorkeling and scuba diving, relaxing on the beach, amusement parks, culture sight-seeing, shopping, golfing, eating… you won’t be bored 😊

How long should our trip be?

There’s so much to do! We strongly recommend you consider spending a week in Da Nang, if possible, to really experience what this beautiful city has to offer.

    A travel schedule we suggest:
  • Leave Friday night, arrive in Da Nang Sunday morning, stay up and adjust to the time zone as they are 14 hours ahead. Then leave the following Sunday morning and arrive back in the US Sunday night.
If you’d prefer a shorter trip, an alternative would be:
  • Leave Wednesday night, arrive in Da Nang Friday morning. Then leave Sunday morning and arrive back Sunday night. This option does not allow for jet-lag recovery, sight-seeing, spas, or activities we have planned, however we understand this may be the only option for you 😊

What’s the flight like?

It’s honestly not bad at all. It’s about 20 hours of air time split between 3 flights and you’re sleeping half the time. You can also choose to have layovers in Taipei, Seoul or Hong Kong, and if you’re feeling up for it, even explore those cities a little! On one trip, Stephen planned a day layover in Hong Kong, went to Hong Kong Disneyland, and then continued on to Da Nang. The airports are awesome in and of themselves and have free cultural activities for tourists.

What's the weather like?

The best weather of the year in Da Nang is in February and March. You can expect a high of 77 and a low of 70. Humidity will be between 65-77%. It only rains (really mists) two days in February so we shouldn’t experience it much 😊

What vaccines do we need?

Per the CDC, only one “new” vaccination is strongly recommended: Typhoid (oral or injection).

Others to consider: If you think you or your child will be petting wild dogs, please get the Rabies vaccine. If you plan on camping in the more rural parts of Vietnam, then plan on getting the Japanese Encephalitis vaccination.

What COVID-19 requirements are there to enter Vietnam?

Effective May 15, 2022, the Vietnamese Government no longer requires a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry into Vietnam. There is also no longer a requirement to present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination prior to boarding.

You can read more about the COVID-19 requirements to enter Vietnam from the U.S Embassy here.

Do we need to obtain a Vietnam Visa?

Yes, as we approach the wedding date, we will keep everyone informed on obtaining a Vietnam Visa to enter Vietnam for up to 30 days as tourists. It's a simple online e-Visa process that takes about 3 days and costs $25 to receive.

What’s a reasonable budget?

A round trip flight is about $1,000; however, planning ahead can reduce this price. The cost of living is lower in Vietnam and therefore most items will be affordable once you arrive. There are very nice hotels starting at $30 a night, and 5-star villas on the beach sleeping 6-8 people for around $350 a night. We are working with resorts to provide several options for different budgets.

How do we get transportation in Da Nang?

They have a very convenient app called Grab. This is their version of Uber/Lyft. If you’re feeling up for it, you can even try hopping on the back of a scooter 😳. You can download it here.

Should we bring cash?

The majority of places we’ll be visiting will accept credit card (most likely not Amex). We recommend bringing cash as well for daily purchases at restaurants, activities, shopping, exploring, etc. When you arrive at the resort, you will be able to exchange US Dollars for Vietnamese Dong at the front desk. The exchange rate fluctuates between 22-23,000₫ Dong per $1 USD, meaning you will all be millionaires when you arrive.

Can we get phone service while in Vietnam?

When you arrive in the airport, you’ll see about ten different kiosks that try to sell you a SIM card for your phone. It looks scammy however it’s a great option that we highly recommend. You can receive unlimited data for your phone for about $10 for your whole stay. They pop out your SIM card, give it to you to keep, and pop in a Vietnam one. Make sure to check with your carrier to unlock your phone first as they will for free if you tell them you are traveling to Vietnam.

Do we need an outlet converter to charge our devices?

No you do not! Vietnam uses a standard voltage of 110/220V. Most American devices, including laptops and phones, are designed to work with a voltage of up to 240V. That means you can safely plug them in without needing to use a voltage converter. The plugs also fit US devices as they use the same type A and B sizes. You can charge without worries!

What if we need more details?
